Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
Hand-arm vibration is transmitted into your hands and arms when you use hand-held powered work equipment.
People who regularly use this type of equipment sometimes develop hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and/or carpal tunnel syndrome.
These conditions affect the nerves, blood vessels, muscles and joints of the hand, wrist and arm. They cause pain and muscle weakness, and can become severely disabling if ignored.
If you develop HAVS, you may also develop ‘vibration white finger’, which can cause severe pain in the affected fingers.
