PSLG Endorse CCS
At the Feb 2012 meeting, the Project Safety Leadership Group fully endorsed CCS and took the decision to mandate its use on all Principal Contractors and their suppliers when working on Network Rail projects. The industry based Close Call System (CCS) was launched on 1 June 2011. The CCS is a result of a collaborative effort between Network Rail, industry contractor representatives and RSSB. Going forward, RSSB will manage the system on behalf of the industry.
What is a close call?
A close call is ‘an event that had the potential to cause injury or damage.’ It is entered onto an electronic form by a registered User, checked and validated by a Safety Professional and recorded in CCS for trending and learning purposes. As reporting a close call is a discretionary act, everybody has to demonstrate the supportive behaviours to encourage the reporting of these events and also when reports are made. This is crucial to the success of CCS.
How it works
Organisations register with CCS which allows them to record and view close call events within the system. This creates the opportunity to assess, trend and learn from their organisations events and from the collective industry data set.
How do I register?
Organisations register and Users record events by logging onto www.closecallsystem.co.uk
A large number of organisations have been directly targeted and provided with information that will help support them in making the decision to register their organisations and join CCS. By joining, organisations can provide real benefit to the industry in making available information that can support on-going improvements in safety.
